SALSA! Module 3 activities aim to put students’ knowledge of adaptation into larger-scale context by explaining that species are adapted to live in specific ecosystems. Some knowledge of adaptation (possibly from Module 2) will enhance understanding of the Module 3 activities, as adaptation is called upon as the main reason species live in the ecosystems they do. The following three activities emphasize that each species is finely tuned to live in a certain ecosystem, that all species are equally necessary to their ecosystems, and that these concepts apply to every inch of the earth. An understanding of the importance of biodiversity then sets the stage for discussing conservation.

Module 3: Biodiversity and Conservation contains three activities:

1. World Ecosystems: Many Places, Many Faces

2. It’s a Jungle Out There!

3. Species: The Building Blocks of Nature
